Community Engagement

As part of our community engagement, the Graduate School collaborates with campus partners to provide information and resources to all graduate students. From Friday Fuel to Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, the Graduate School will ensure that all students are well-informed and familiar with all campus resources.

Freedom of Expression

At Vanderbilt, we have a long tradition of free expression. We believe in bringing together people of differing viewpoints for a common purpose. We are proud to affirm our commitment to this principle, which is fundamental to who we are as a university. Read more about Vanderbilt’s Freedom of Expression policy in the Student Handbook.

Student Handbook

The Student Handbook is designed to acquaint students with the specifics of the standards expected of them as members of the University community. The policies and regulations delineated in the handbook apply to all students enrolled at Vanderbilt. What students may expect of each other, and the principles that form the basis of what the University expects of students, are articulated in the Community Creed.

Student Organizations & Centers

Student organizations play a crucial role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive academic community. These entities serve as hubs for collaboration and support within the graduate student body.

The Graduate Student Council is a representative body consisting of one representative from each graduate department of the University. They coordinate academic, social, and other activities significant to the graduate community and strive to promote community amongst graduate students. They also work to ascertain and represent graduate student opinions and concerns, facilitating communication between graduate students, administration, and faculty. Additionally, the Graduate Student Council produces a calendar every academic year highlighting student resources and upcoming events.

For other groups and organizations with active Vanderbilt graduate students, please visit the Belonging & Communities within Student Affairs website.

Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week

Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week was established in 1993 by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students as a way to support and appreciate graduate and professional students. The week seeks to emphasize the contributions, impact, and value of graduate and professional students on campuses throughout the United States. Stay tuned for upcoming events!
