Diana is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations at Peabody College. Her dissertation focuses on the impact of test-based grade retention on students designated as English Learners (ELs). Diana’s dissertation was selected for the American Educational Research Association and National Science Foundation. Diana is using Regression Discontinuity analysis to estimate the impact of grade retention on ELs’ outcomes, such as English language proficiency, high school graduation, college entry, and earnings. Her research has significant implications for creating fair educational policies that address the specific needs of ELs, who have historically been underserved in public schools. Additionally, Diana’s study will provide the first causal evidence of the labor market effects of grade retention and offer insights into enhancing learning opportunities for ELs.
Congratulations Diana!
