Professor Biswas’ research group in Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems (MACS) at the Institute for Software Integrated Systems (ISIS) and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Vanderbilt University has an opening for a post-doctoral researcher in the area of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) and Control. In particular, this position will involve research in applying model- and data-driven approaches to control and safety analysis of Complex CPS. Of particular interest are candidates who have a background in deep reinforcement learning methods.

Applicants are expected to have the following qualifications:
• Ph.D. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field
• Expertise in model-based and data-driven methods for system monitoring and control.
• Ability to develop and apply control and safety analysis methods to co-simulation testbeds available at Vanderbilt University and NASA Ames.

The post-doctoral researcher will work closely with the faculty mentor (Gautam Biswas, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering), and graduate students in the MACS lab on projects in smart buildings and safety analysis of unmanned aerial vehicle flights.

The initial post-doctoral fellowship will be for a year, with the possibility of extensions to a second and third year based on performance. Superior performance in generating publications and support for grant writing can lead to a promotion to a Research Scientist position at ISIS.

The post-doctoral fellowship includes an initial salary of at least $75,000 per year plus health insurance coverage and support for professional travel. Please send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and at most two publications (or manuscripts in progress), by email to Gautam Biswas. Applications will be reviewed immediately, with a potential start date of May 1, 2019 for the selected candidate.
