Postdoctoral research fellow position with Dr. Rich Milner of Peabody College, Department of Teaching and Learning, beginning in Fall 2019.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION at Vanderbilt University beginning Fall 2019. Applications are strongly encouraged from scholars whose research focuses on race, diversity, equity, and urban education. 

The position is funded by funds under the management of Dr. Rich Milner of the Department of Teaching and Learning at Peabody College. Research and related project work will focus on investigating and supporting teachers’ development of ambitious and equitable instructional practices in schools in an urban school district. The research projects will employ a range of methodologies and draws on the tools and methods of improvement science as they have been applied to education, with a particular emphasis on the development and use of culturally relevant pedagogies to support marginalized students. Current initiatives are being conducted in close collaboration with the mathematics and English language arts (ELA) leaders of an urban school district. . The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Rich Milner on all phases of the project including: designing and co-leading professional development and other types of support for mathematics and ELA coaches; developing practical measures and other types of tools; data collection, analysis, and the publication of results. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged and supported to develop publications that build on his or her emerging research agenda. The postdoctoral fellow will also participate in administrative duties that help build a Center focused on race, education and/or equity. Thus, the postdoctoral fellow’s roles will be part research and part administrative. 

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in Education or a relevant field. Applicants will ideally have expertise in and experience with qualitative data analysis, quantitative data analysis, or both. The position is full time and carries a competitive salary, plus health insurance coverage, as specified by Vanderbilt University guidelines. The position has the possibility of extension for at least two additional years. Review of applications will begin March 22, 2019, and will continue until the position is filled.
