Ophthalmology

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Edward Chaum at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Using advanced cellular and molecular biology, and innovative bioengineering approaches to study degenerative diseases of the retina, this research project focuses on deriving phenotypically normal human retinal cells from pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) harboring genomic and mitochondrial mutations for translational applications in patient care.

Our laboratory uses advanced cellular and molecular biology, and innovative bioengineering approaches to study degenerative diseases of the retina. The successful candidate is expected to be independent, self-motivated, creative and result-oriented individual, with a Ph.D. and/or M.D degree. They will have demonstrated a record of research achievement including high quality publications, grant writing experience and expertise in stem cell culture, and technology. A strong interdisciplinary background in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and genomics with expertise in cell-based assays, culture and differentiation of pluripotent stem cells, microscopy, animal models, experimental design, and data and statistical analysis is required.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in stem cell biology. Applicants must be citizens or a current US resident with a valid US visa to be considered. Candidates with prior related postdoctoral training are encouraged to apply.

Please send a current CV, bibliography with reprints if possible, and three references to Edward Chaum, MD PhD, Margy Ann and J. Donald M. Gass Professor of Ophthalmology, Vanderbilt Eye Institute, 2311 Pierce Ave. Nashville TN, 37232, or by e-mail to Edward Chaum.
