Postdoctoral Position in Vision and Computational Neuroscience


A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Frank Tong’s lab in the Department of Psychology at Vanderbilt University. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to pursue research in one or more focus areas of the lab. A major research focus is to conduction high-resolution fMRI studies at 7 Tesla to characterize the perceptual and attentional functions of the early human visual system, including the lateral geniculate nucleus and early visual cortex. The goal of this research is to evaluate and to develop models of feedback processing, including models of predictive coding. Another area of focus is on characterizing the behavioral and neural bases of visual object recognition, with an emphasis on exploring the utility of deep learning networks as a model of human object processing. Finally, the lab pursues research on higher-level aspects of visual cognition, including the neural bases of visual attention, object-based attentional selection and visual working memory, through a combination of psychophysics, computational modeling, and fMRI approaches. 

Candidates should have a strong research background in vision, neuroscience, and/or advanced computational methods. Those with extensive experience in computational modeling and/or deep learning are especially encouraged to apply.
