Michael D. Segovia published a first-author paper titled “Indicators of Community Connectedness: How One’s Connection with the LGBT Community Influences Level of Drinking Behaviors Among Sexual and Gender Minority Adults in the Generations Study” in the Journal of Homosexuality.
Michael started this paper as an Honors thesis while completing his undergraduate program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). With help from his coauthor and undergraduate mentor, Dr. P. Johnelle Sparks, he refined the paper throughout his first year in the Sociology PhD program at Vanderbilt University. This paper symbolizes Michael’s transition from public health to sociology as he aims to continue conducting LGBTQ+ health research through a sociological lens within the program.
